6th grade t-shirts

November 25th, 2009

We are extending the deadline for ordering 6th grade t-shirts to Monday November 30th. Please fill in the yellow sheet with your child’s name and size, or if you’ve lost the sheet a piece of paper with that information is fine too, and send $9 in cash. These t-shirts can be worn throughout the year and we ask students to wear them on our trip to Valleyfair in June. Please email me if you have any questions.

The above pictures are from our Team Time math class. Students were working on an enrichment activity where they needed to divide objects into an area using pick-up sticks.

On Tuesday in Social Studies students have a PowerPoint or newspaper ad due describing either the Sand Creek Massacre, the Battle of Little Bighorn, or the Battle of Wounded Knee. We will be reviewing for the chapter 7 test after sharing projects. That test will be on Tuesday December 1st.

On Wednesday our class will pair up Mrs. Lee’s 3rd graders for the Gillette blanket project.

Thank you to everyone who replied to my email about rescheduling conferences. I will be contacting you in the next few days with more information. Have a wonderful weekend!

The Week of November 16th

November 13th, 2009

There are many exciting things beginning the week of the 16th. The first is the Woodland Food Drive which will run until December 16th. Students who bring in a nonperishable  item, will get a coupon for Taco Bell. Next week is also the start of Project Copernicus. I have several permission slips for students to bring in their own netbooks or laptops starting this week. Since this is such a new program, we may start integrating this technology in a few areas at first and add more as we go along. As far as the curriculum in the classes I teach, the schedule for the week includes:

Reading – reading Trapped by the Ice in their purple reading books and testing on Friday

Leveled Reading – spelling pretest Monday and test Friday (the words from Trapped by the Ice)

Math – finishing chapter 4 and testing on Friday

Social Studies – beginning Chapter 7, Life on the Plains
