Leveled Reading update 11-14

Posted by: Otto | November 14, 2009 Comments Off |

The students are in the midst of our new novel The Thief Lord.  Our latest focus has been Evaluative, Inferential and Interpretive questions, which are standards for 5th grade.  Students are answering them, and will next be asked to write them.  These types of questions lead to interpretation, prediction and judgement, which require students to go beyond literal questions and justify their answers.

Over the next 2 weeks, we will work on author’s style (using our current novel), examine plotlines, analyze quotation significance and highlight the use of adverbs and prepositional phrases in writing.  In addition, we continue to study our wordmasters words, practice analogies, and discuss connections between words in analogies.  Check out the Kid Sites to browse and learn under Reading/Language Arts for some analogy sites that we used in class on Friday.
