Our Students are Larger Than Life!
We have had a very busy week in second grade! The kids have been working very hard, and we believe the upcoming break will be well-deserved. Throughout the week, we have been testing the children’s reading fluency as well as preparing them for tomorrow’s math test (the focus is on story problems). At the end of our test review today, Mr. Lund decided to show the kids some of the more exciting things a document camera can do.

- The Great and Powerful LSquared Student…
Speaking of all the fun we have in our room, we begun have a friendly competition between Lund and Levy kids to see who will donate the most non-perishable food items to CEAP. Each day a child brings in a donation, he or she gets to take home a coupon for a free taco at Taco Bell! At this point in time, the Lund kids are in the lead, but Levy is looking forward to a big comeback! (The best part is, the reward goes to the grade level that donates the most items, so we would all share the prize!)
One other thing: tomorrow we will send home a note about our Friendship Soup. We plan to make the soup on Tuesday, November 24th. Please be sure to send something in with your child (a carrot, some spices, some crackers…) so that we can have everyone contribute to the delicious treat!

This morning we attended the rehearsal performance of the sixth grade musical. The theme of the musical is a tribute to the music of the 1980s. It was a lot of fun, and very inspirational, since we will be in our very own second grade musical this spring! The sixth graders will have a community performance on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM in our gymnasium. Even if you do not have a sixth grader at Woodland, you are invited to come with your kids and enjoy the show!

The kids really enjoyed the show!
Upcoming Events:
This Friday, November 13th, is Woodland’s Annual Turkey Bingo and Silent Auction. It is from 5:30-8:00 PM. We hope to see you there!
*Prior to Turkey Bingo, you can pick up your Innisbrook orders in the cafeteria, beginning at 4:00 PM.
Today’s Wednesday mail included a yellow flyer for a Fall Carnival, hosted by Park Center on Tuesday, November 24th from 5-8:00 PM. The admission is free, there will be games (tickets starting at 50 cents), pictures with TC Bear, and more.
Monday, December 7th is Woodland’s Barnes and Noble night! Shop at the Maple Grove Barnes and Noble throughout the day (be sure to bring the voucher in today’s Wednesday mail) and a percentage of your purchase will go back to the Woodland PTA! At 7:00 PM on the 7th, our Woodland Eagle choir will perform at the bookstore. Thank you for your support!

Looks like fun!
Each month, we send a yellow reading calendar home with the students. The kids are expected to read at least 400 minutes each month (about 15 minutes a day). At the end of each month, the kids who have read a minimum of 400 minutes and returned their signed reading calendars earn a special reward.

No line for the swings!
In September and October, the kids earned an extra recess. Next month, the reward will be a special 2nd grade Bingo game. We hope to have lots of kids participate!

So much fun!
On a different note, we have added a few things to our Virtual Giving Tree (see the “Donate” page at the top of our blog). If you are looking for a home for extra individually wrapped candy, we would be happy to take it off your hands and put it in our prize jar!

What goes up must come down.

The kids brought home their “Tiger” reading anthology books over the weekend. We would like them to re-read Wilson Sat Alone. We will test the kids’ vocabulary and story comprehension of that selection on Monday, November 2nd. Thank you for your help!
We have an extra credit assignment that we did not have time to go over with the kids today. For any children who are collecting candy over the weekend, we would love it if they would sort and graph their candies. They can lay them out on the carpet/bed and you can take a picture to show how they did it, or they can make an actual graph on paper. We will talk about this activity with the kids on Monday, too, but wanted to put it out there to any of our readers who want to get a jump start.
