A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti January 12, devastating the country. More than 200,000 people died from the quake and buildings and homes have been demolished. It is a daily struggle to meet medical and nutrition needs and help the country recover from the trauma of this disaster. The American Red Cross’ primary focus during this time is providing food and shelter and meeting other basic needs for the people of Haiti.
The Woodland Student Council believes that we have an opportunity to help the people of Haiti recover and rebuild their lives through donations to the Red Cross. In reflecting on the many things we are fortunate to have, we ask you to consider helping the people of Haiti at this time of need. If every student and staff member brings in just $1.00 we will be able to donate over $1,000. Donation day is Feb. 11th. Please help us meet this goal! We thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion.

I am holding off until Monday or Tuesday of next week to place the order for the 6th grade t-shirts. If your student has not ordered yet (or you have not seen the form!) the form was sent home on Monday of this week and the shirts are $9. Students wear these shirts to Commemoration and Valley Fair at the end of the year, and they are welcome to wear them whenever else they please.
Students in my classroom will have a science quiz, based on the vocabulary words for the electricity unit that we have covered, on Monday the 30th of November! Mrs. Tollefson’s kids will have this quiz on Tuesday, December 1st!
Reminder that I am still collecting things for the Silent Action Basket. Our basket’s theme is “It’s a Zoo in Here.” So far I have a stuffed moose, animal crackers, a stuffed monkey, ZooPal plates, zoo theme pencils, the Disney movie “The Wild,” 4 plastic zoo animals, and a book titled “Animal World.” We are still in need of goodies for our basket. I am also collecting 1 dollar from each student to help purchase the basket and “fillers” to make it complete. Every thing needs to be turned in by next Tuesday, November 10th.
Going home today with each student is also a flier from Mrs. Bordinaro. To help celebrate the musical we are going to have a pizza lunch on the 13th of November. We are askign that each child brings in 2 dollars to help pay for the pizza. Money needs to be turned in by the 12th! Students may bring thier own pop to drink on the 13th!
