Week of March 1 -    Me On the Map-    High Frequency Words : country; Earth; over; special; town; world

 Week of March 15-    Tell Me a Story-:   High Frequency Words -   cook; front; listen; most; picture; why; young

Week of March 15-   My Robot- :       High Frequency Words:  always; does; even; pretty; say; sound; almost; once

 

Math  

 We will be learning about fractions, Circle Graphes and Clocks in unit 7 of our math book.  The big concepts in this unit will be as follows: halves and doubles; fouths, halves and other fractions; simple cirlce graphs; clocks and calendars.

Feburary First Grade News

Language Arts  – We will be completing the theme Here and There and starting the there Time Together.

Week of February 1  – Friends ForeverHigh Frequency Words -each, great, other, place, school, talk, together.

Week of February 8 – The Foz and the Stork -  High Frequency Words -  door, kind, made, who, would.

Week of February 15 – Review week – No Spelling Test

Week of February 22 – A Bed Full of Cats  – also, anything, know, moved, any, moved, only, room, should, those, write.

Math -   Unit 6 – Comparisons and Data Formats – We will learn how to compare numbers through picture graphs, tables and calibrated units.

December and January News

Language Arts – We will be finishing the theme Catch A Dream  in December.  In January we will be starting the theme Here and There.  We will be reading the following stories:  Week of Nov. 30 – Try Your Best High Frequency Words – be, good, Mr., need, our, right, saw, time and try.  Week of Dec. 7 -   Fun With Fish   High Frequency Words – away, food, funny, hide, how, many, some, their.  Week of Dec. 14 – Review Week – No Story and no spelling.   Week of Jan. 4 -I Am a Butterfly High Frequency Words – air, animals , around, fly, live, soon, turns.    Week of Jan. 11 -   Did You See Chip? High Frequency Words – city, house, sometimes, take, there.   Week of Jan. 18 -  Tomas Rivera   High Frequency Words – about, books, by, family, grew, read, work, writing.   Week of  Jan. 25 -  On the Way to the Pond   High Frequency Words -find, follow, found, four, full, these, way, were.

Math – In December we will be completing unit 4 which will focus on basic ten concepts.  The shildren will be exploring tens and ones groupings up to one hundred. Unit 5 will start in January and will build on the concepts learned in the previous unit.   We will continue to focus on the base ten concepts.

In language arts we will be continuing  the theme Catch a Dream.   The stories will be as follows:

Week of November 9-  Space Pup – High Frequency Words – gives, he, night, out, people, says, when and your

Week of  November 16 – Where Do Frogs Come From? - High Frequency Words- eat, from, gone, grows, or and two.

Week of November 23 – No story- due to short week and field trip on November 25th.

Week of November 30 – Try Your Best – High Frequency Words – be, good, Mr., need, our, right, saw, time and try.

The children will be finishing Unit 3 in math during the month.  We are learning strategies for both adding and subtracting.  Story problems are also being introduced and we are using the addition and subtraction strategies to find the solutions.

Important dates to remember – Nov. 25 – Field Trip; Nov. 26 and 27 – No School.

Week of October 26

I can’t believe that this is the last week of October.  I have enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with each of you during conferences.

We are starting a new book this week – Catch a Dream.    Our first story is Dan’ Pet   The high frequency words are – day, every, her, said, was and with.

In math we are completing Unit 2 where we have been learning addition and subtraction strategies.

Remeber to turn in your child’s permission slip for the upcoming field trip.

Weeks of October 12 and Oct. 19

Over the next two weeks we will be reading Todd’s B0x  and All That Corn.    There will be no spelling test the week of Oct. 12 .  There will be a new spelling list coming home on Wed. October October 14.   The vocabulary words for All That Corn are as follows: buy, that, very and where.

 In math we are learning different stratigies for adding.  On Monday we will be starting Team Time.  Team Time will focus on math concepts . 

I am looking forward to meeting with each of you during conferences.

First Grade News

Welcome!

   We have had a busy couple of

weeks in first grade.  The children

are adjusting well to school.

       This week we will be reading

the story ” Jack and Rick” by David

McPhail.  The High Frequency

Words are – help, now, play, too

and want.

In math we are continuing to learn

about number partners – some

partners  for 7 would be 1+6, 6+1,

2+5, 5+2.
