Mrs. Drake's Fifth Grade

We are into our third week of Spelling. Students take the pretest on Monday. If they get a score of 18, 19, or 20 on the pretest, they move onto the challenge list for the week. The challenge list is currently made up of commonly misspelled words. Latin and Greek root words will be included on the challenge list as the year goes on. Students brought home a list of 45 options to practice their words each week. Hopefully that list is posted in a safe place. They will need it the entire year. If it gets misplaced, email me and I will send you a copy. Each Tuesday they will bring home a half sheet of yellow paper where they record the 2 options they chose for the week and reflect upon their favorite. It is due on or before Friday. Your signature is required as proof they put some time into studying. A score of 75% or better is required on the weekly test, usually Fridays. If your child falls below that, they will retake the test the next day during recess.

It was so exciting to see you at Open House last night! The emotions of finding out who your teacher is and if your friends are in your class were evident on your face. No matter the emotion, we are going to have an amazing 2 years together! The adventure officially begins on September 8!
